Radar Jammers: What Might Happen If You’re Caught With Any Sort of Radar Jammers?
Posted by: | CommentsBecause of the interference that radar jammers cause or attempt to cause, you may get in a lot of trouble if you caught with one being operated from your vehicle.
Are There Any Legal Radar Jammers?
The term jammer is used for both active and passive radar jammers. In reality, there is a lot of difference between these two types. A passive jammer’s function is to scramble or absorb the radar signal, whereas an active jammer does what its name suggests; it attempts to jam the speed detection system. According to law, the use of active radar jammers is illegal. It does not matter which US state you’re in; you cannot legally use an active jammer. For passive radar jammers, there are no specific law(s) that prohibit their use. The only states where their use is illegal are those where all types of jammers are banned. However, this does not mean that you’ll be dodging speeding tickets because passive radar jammers are considered ineffective against the radar guns used by law enforcement agencies. One reason for their effectiveness may be that they only have a reflected signal of 1 or 2 inches. In comparison, the radar waves striking the vehicle are reflected from the entire surface creating a huge difference in signal strength between the radar gun and the detector scrambler. The only legal device for passenger vehicles is a radar detector. These devices were destroyed by law enforcement agencies in the past, but due to law suits filed by owners, the police now remove the device and writes a citation, and does not confiscate or destroy your radar detector. The use of these devices is not allowed in a military installation.
What Are The Penalties If I Get Caught Using Any Sort Of Laser Jammers?
Any attempt to jam the proper functioning of a police radar system will considered a crime and the penalty for this crime can be in the form of a fine and/or imprisonment. According to the communications act of 1934, you will pay a fine of not more than ten thousand or go to jail for not more than one year, or both. If you are a repeat offender then you may face a fine of not more than ten thousand or imprisonment for a term not more than two years, or both.
The section 333 of the act clearly states that no person is allowed to willfully or maliciously interfere with or cause interference to any radio communications of any station licensed or authorized by or under this Act. Another section of the communications act that is related to the use and manufacturing of radar jammers is the Sec. 510. Here it is stated that using, sending, carrying, manufacturing, assembling, possessing, offering for sale, selling, or advertising any electromagnetic, radio frequency, electronic, or similar device, or a component that is done with willful and knowing intent to violate section 301 or 302a of this title, or rules prescribed by the Commission under such sections, may result in the equipment (radar jammer(s) or other) being seized and forfeited to the United States.
